What is an Ostomy?

Key Ostomy Information and Terms

Granu-fiex, Cambi-derm, Aqua-gel

Erectile disfunction

These pumps should be distinguished from other penis pumps (supplied without compression rings) which, rather than being used for temporary treatment of impotence, are claimed to increase penis length if used frequently, or vibrate as an aid to masturbation. Furthermore, studies have shown that lack of testosterone leads to a range of other sexual performance problems, including premature ejaculation and low sex drive. Given the advances in medicine and nutrition research, however, it is no longer a scary thing. A vacuum erection device helps draw blood into the penis by applying negative pressure. If the stamp is no longer in place by morning, it means that a nocturnal erection occurred.

The terms ostomy and stoma are general descriptive terms that are often used interchangeably though they have different meanings. An ostomy refers to the surgically created opening in the body for the discharge of body wastes. A stoma is the actual end of the ureter or small or large bowel that can be seen protruding through the abdominal wall. The most common specific types of ostomies are described below.

MediTex – Medical staplers

manufacturer: MediTex (China)

Surgical staples are specialized staples used in surgery in place of sutures to close skin wounds, connect or remove parts of the bowels or lungs. A more recent development, from the 1990s, uses clips instead of staples for some applications; this does not require the staple to penetrate.

Erectile Disfunction

It is normal for a man to have five to six erections during sleep, especially during rapid eye movement (REM). If you suspect this may be the cause, you can perform a simple test to see if impotence is just in your mind. These involuntary erections mean that everything is fine with the nerves, muscles and arteries involved in the erection process, and signals that the cause of impotence is elsewhere. During the late 16th and 17th centuries in France, male impotence was considered a crime, as well as legal grounds for a divorce. Ultrasound is then used to see vascular dilation and measure penile blood pressure. Duplex ultrasound is used to evaluate blood flow, venous leak, signs of atherosclerosis, and scarring or calcification of erectile tissue. Given the advances in medicine and nutrition research, however, it is no longer a scary thing.

Oasy - A contemporary solution

Although often prevented and treatable if detected early, pressure ulcers can be very difficult to prevent in critically ill people, frail elders, wheelchair users (especially where spinal injury is involved) and terminally ill individuals. Primary prevention is to redistribute pressure by regularly turning the person. The benefit of turning to avoid further sores is well documented since at least the 19th century. In addition to turning and re-positioning the person in the bed or wheelchair, eating a balanced diet with adequate protein and keeping the skin free from exposure to urine and stool is very important.

Oasy – Specialized products

Intact skin with non-blanchable redness of a localized area usually over a bony prominence. Darkly pigmented skin may not have visible blanching; its color may differ from the surrounding area. The area differs in characteristics such as thickness and temperature as compared to adjacent tissue. Stage I may be difficult to detect in individuals with dark skin tones. May indicate "at risk" persons (a heralding sign of risk).

TechTronic – Other Products

manufacturer: TechTronic

Partial thickness loss of dermis presenting as a shallow open ulcer with a red pink wound bed, without slough. May also present as an intact or open/ruptured serum-filled blister. Presents as a shiny or dry shallow ulcer without slough or bruising. This stage should not be used to describe skin tears, tape burns, perineal dermatitis, maceration or excoriation.
